Lawrence and Yeatman Honored as USA South Athletes of the Week
Methodist student-athletes receive weekly conference honors

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The USA South has announced their athletes of the week. The conference gives an award for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for each sport active during the week.

Daryl Lawrence has been named the USA South Football Defensive Player of the Week. The Jacksonville, North Carolina senior linebacker had a game-high 19 tackles as the Monarchs fell to Guilford, 50-47. Lawrence accounted for 15 solo tackles, four assisted take downs, one tackle for loss, one pass break up and one forced fumble. This Saturday the football team travels to Chowan to face the Hawks at 1 pm.

Junior Sara Yeatman was chosen as the USA South Volleyball Player of the Week. The junior outside hitter from Dunn, North Carolina led the Monarchs in kills in each match last week as MU went 2-2 at the Roanoke Classic. In a 3-1 win over Sweet Briar, Yeatman tallied a double-double with 18 kills and 14 digs. In a 3-0 loss to Roanoke, Yeatman recorded ten kills and seven digs. In a 3-1 win over Randolph, Yeatman contributed her second double-double of the week as she had 16 kills and 16 digs with one service ace and one block. Finally, in a 3-1 loss to Emory & Henry, Yeatman tallied her third double-double with 23 kills and 22 digs while adding two assists, one service ace and one block. For her efforts, Yeatman earned All-Tournament honors. The volleyball team opens USA South play Tuesday at Greensboro at 7 pm.
