October 30, 2007 DANVILLE, VA - The sixth seeded Methodist volleyball team traveled to #3 Averett Tuesday night for the first round of the USA South Tournament. The Monarchs lost in three games (30-14,30-23,30-19) to finish their season at 16-16 overall. Averett advances to the semifinals with a 25-11 record this season. Averett jumped out to a 10-5 lead in game one and never looked back as they cruised to a 30-14 win. In game two, the Monarchs pushed Averett to 21-19 keeping the game tight to 26-23 before Averett finished with the final four points to win 30-23. The Cougars went on to win the match with a 30-19 win in game three. Junior Sara Yeatman, sophomore Laura Gilbert, and sophomore Allison Averitt had four kills a piece for Methodist. Sophomore Jordan Grady led the Monarchs with 10 digs while sophomore Tiffany Zellhart had 16 assists with eight digs. |
