Methodist Volleyball Receives Conference Sportsmanship Award
Student Athlete Advisory Committee initiated award to encourage good sportsmanship throughout the conference
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- 
During the 2004-2005 academic year the USA South Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee instituted a Conference-wide Sportsmanship Award. Today the USA South is pleased to announce the Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2006 fall sports season. Methodist University is the winner for volleyball for the third consecutive season.  release

USA South Names All-Conference Volleyball Teams
Sophomore Sara Yeatman selected as honorable mention
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- 
The USA South has released their All-Conference teams for the 2006 season.  The awards are based on athletes' regular season play and voted on by the conference coaches.  Methodist College sophomore Sara Yeatman was named an honorable mention selection.  release

Monarchs Fall to Ferrum in Three Games
Sophomore Sara Yeatman leads the team with 6 kills
FERRUM, VA-  The volleyball team traveled to Ferrum on Tuesday for first round action of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.  Methodist lost to Ferrum 0-3 (21-30, 14-30, 20-30).  Methodist concludes their 2006 season 15-17 overall and 6-8 in the USA South.  release

Monarchs Win Two at USA South Quad Match
Freshman Allison Averitt leads the team with 36 kills in two matches
ROCKY MOUNT, NC-  The Monarchs traveled to NC Wesleyan on Saturday to compete in their final USA South Quad Match of the regular season.  Methodist faced Ferrum first and won 3-2 (30-23, 30-28, 15-30, 28-30, 15-11) before taking on and defeating Shenandoah 3-2 as well (30-27 ,32-34, 30-25, 27-30, 15-11).  Methodist finishes the regular season 15-16 overall and 6-8 in the USA South.  release

Volleyball Sweeps Salem 3-0
Senior Caryn Moreland surpasses 500 dig mark in last career home game
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs faced Salem College in their final home game of the 2006 season.  Senior Caryn Moreland was honored before the game for her three years on the volleyball team.  During the game, Moreland surpassed 500 career digs.  With the 3-0 (30-2, 30-4, 30-10) win over Salem, Methodist moves to 13-16 overall while Salem falls to 0-19 this season.  release

Monarchs Fall to Greensboro in Three Games
Freshman Allison Averitt led the Monarchs with 10 kills
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs took on the Greensboro Pride for the second time this season but were shutout 0-3 (15-30, 17-30, 26-30).  Methodist moves to 12-16 overall and 4-8 in the USA South while Greensboro improves to 23-9 overall and 10-2 in the conference.  release

Freshman Laura Gilbert has 16 kills against Peace
RALEIGH, NC-  The Monarchs traveled to Peace College for another USA South Quad Match on Saturday.  In their first match of the day, the Monarchs fell to Christopher Newport 0-3 (23-30, 22-30, 16-30), but came back to defeat Peace  3-1 (30-28, 28-30, 32-30, 30-28). The Monarchs move to 12-15 overall and 4-7 in the USA South.  release

DANVILLE, VA-  The Methodist volleyball team traveled to Averett on Wednesday night to face the Averett Cougars for the second time this season.  The Monarchs lost in three games (10-30, 30-19, 13-30, 18-30).  The Monarchs fall to 11-14 overall and 3-6 in the USA South while Averett moves to 22-5 overall and 9-0 in the conference.  release

SWEET BRIAR, VA-  The Monarchs won two more matches on Saturday against Sweet Briar College and Mountain State University.  Methodist swept Sweet Briar in 3 games (30-15, 30-15, 30-24) and then finished things off against Mountain State winning 3-2 (30-28, 30-17, 21-30, 15-12).  The Monarchs improve to 11-13 overall.  release

LYNCHBURG, VA-  The Monarchs traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia Friday night to face Randolph Macon Woman's College.  The Monarchs won 3-2 (30-32, 26-30, 30-26, 30-25, 15-11). Methodist moves to 9-13 on the season.  release

Methodist Falls to NC Wesleyan 2-3
Sophomore Taylor Powers adds 8 kills and a block in the loss
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  North Carolina Wesleyan traveled to Fayetteville Tuesday night winless in conference play.  The Monarchs defeated the Bishops September 27th 3-2, but the Monarchs had trouble getting things started on their home court.  NC Wesleyan won the match 2-3 (16-30, 29-31, 30-20, 30-24, 11-15).  Methodist moves to 8-13 on the season and 3-5 in the USA South while NC Wesleyan improves to 8-13 and 1-7 in the conference.  release

Senior Caryn Moreland had 27 digs in two matches
STAUNTON, VA-  The Methodist volleyball team finished things off at the Mary Baldwin Invitational on Saturday with two matches against Bridgewater College and Eastern Mennonite University.  The Monarchs lost in three to Bridgewater (27-30, 9-30, 28-30) and then swept Eastern Mennonite in three (30-20, 30-24, 30-28).  Methodist moves to 8-12 on the season.  release

Sophomore Sara Yeatman records 16 kills in two matches
STAUNTON, VA-  The Monarchs stepped out of conference play to travel to the Mary Baldwin Invitational in Staunton, Virginia this weekend.  In the first match, Methodist lost 0-3 to Roanoke College (23-30, 23-30, 24-30).  The Monarchs then faced Lynchburg College and lost in three games (17-30, 17-30, 23-30).  Methodist moves to 7-11 on the season.  release

Senior Caryn Moreland has 12 digs on the night
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  After losing in five to Meredith on Monday, the Monarchs came back against NC Wesleyan to win 3-2 with game scores 34-32, 19-30, 30-28, 25-30, 15-12.  It was a seesaw back and forth, but the Monarchs maintained the upper hand winning the final game.  Methodist moves to 6-8 on the season and sits at 3-4 in the USA South while NC Wesleyan falls to 4-13 and 0-7 in the conference.  release

FERRUM, VA-  The Monarchs traveled to Ferrum College for their second USA South quad match of the season.  In the first match, Methodist took Shenandoah in three games (34-32, 30-17, 30-20).  They came back out in their second match to face host Ferrum and lost in three (24-30, 28-30, 26-30).  Methodist moves to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist volleyball team was coming off a strong win against Peace on Saturday but struggled against Averett tonight losing in three games (20-30, 15-30, 26-30).  The Averett offense was on target producing only 9 team attack errors in the first two games combined.  Methodist moves to 4-7 on the season and 1-3 in the USA South.  release

Lose to Christopher Newport in 4 games before beating Peace in 3
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs kicked things off early this morning facing Christopher Newport at 11:30 am and not returning until 7 pm against Peace.  Christopher Newport won the first match in 4 games (17-30, 30-27, 13-30, 23-30) before Methodist defeated Peace in three close games (30-24, 31-29, 30-28).  Methodist moves to 4-6 on the season and 1-2 in USA South competition.  release

GREENSBORO, NC-  The Monarchs forced the match to 4 games but Greensboro took the first conference match 3-1 with scores of 16-30, 30-28, 21-30, and 19-30.  The volleyball team moves to 3-5 for the season while Greensboro improved to 9-1.  release

Yeatman named to All-Tournament team
SEWANEE, TN-  The Monarchs played two NAIA schools today and lost 0-3 to both.  In the first match Methodist played Faulkner and lost 25-30, 24-30, and 27-30.  Against the University of Mobile, the Monarchs lost 16-30, 18-30, and 14-30.  Despite the losses, sophomore Sara Yeatman was named to the Sewanee Invitational All-Tournament team. release

SEWANEE, TN-  After beginning their season 3-0 last weekend, the Methodist volleyball team struggled on the first day of the Sewanee Invitational losing 0-3 to Emory & Henry (19-30, 11-30, 23-30) and then 1-3 to Sewanee: The University of the South (23-30, 19-30, 30-24, 22-30). release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist Monarchs returned this morning to take on the Vixen of Sweet Briar College for the second time in two days.  Sweet Briar started out strong pushing Methodist to 30-28 in the first game, but the Monarchs prevailed in the final two games 30-19 and 30-18. release

Yeatman leads team with eight kills and seven aces
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist Monarchs volleyball team started off on the right foot, taking Sweet Briar in three games 19-30, 22-30, 26-30.  Coach Eddie Matthews was able to use a number of players in the win.

Methodist Volleyball Preview
Coach Matthews brings in host of newcomers to join veterans
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  After nearly two weeks of practice, head volleyball coach, Eddie Matthews already likes what he sees.  There are five returning players along with 17 new additions to the roster ready to make a difference.  Last year Matthews' team advanced to the USA South semifinals before losing to Greensboro finishing the season at 17-13 overall.  The Monarchs ended their most successful season since 1992, but Matthews is prepared to continue fighting in order to reach the top of the USA South. release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The USA South Conference office released the preseason polls today for cross country, soccer and volleyball.  The polls are based on votes from each conference member's head coach without voting for themselves.  release
