Monarchs Win Fourth Consecutive Conference Match
Sophomore Taylor Cates racks up 16 kills and 21 digs

ROCKY MOUNT, NC - The Methodist volleyball team stayed strong with a four game win over N.C. Wesleyan Wednesday night (30-24, 30-24, 27-30, 30-27). With the win, Methodist improves to 11-7 on the season and 6-3 in the USA South Conference, while N.C. Wesleyan falls to 10-10 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

The N.C. Wesleyan Bishops took the early lead in game one, but Methodist sophomore Jordan Grady served two aces to give Methodist the lead. The Monarchs took over and secured the first win with the serve from sophomore Taylor Cates and a kill from junior Sara Yeatman. The Monarchs took game two with five kills from Cates. Methodist held a 14-7 lead in game three, but the Bishops came from behind to push the match to four games. N.C. Wesleyan kept it tight even pushing the score to 29-27, but sophomore Kelsey Carter scored the kill for match point.

Cates finished with 16 kills and 21 digs while Yeatman and Carter had 11 a piece. Sophomore Jordan Grady registered 28 digs while sophomore Tiffany Zellhart had 48 assists and 17 digs.

The Monarchs will travel to Greensboro on Saturday to face Christopher Newport at 12 pm and Ferrum at 2 pm in another USA South Quad match.
