October 23, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Methodist Monarchs needed a win on Tuesday night to ensure their chances of hosting a USA South Tournament match next week. The team lost in three games to N.C. Wesleyan (27-30, 23-30, 16-30). The Monarchs move to 15-14 overall this season and 8-8 in the USA South while the Bishops improve to 19-12 on the year and 10-6 in the USA South. The first game became a battle for points with both teams exchanging the lead. Methodist led 22-20 before N.C. Wesleyan tied the game and went on to win 30-27. The second game started the same with each team trading points. A kill from junior Sara Yeatman tied the game at 20, but N.C. Wesleyan pulled away for the 30-23 win. The Monarchs had trouble early in game three with the Bishops jumping out to an 8-2 advantage. N.C. Wesleyan was looking for match point at 29-13 and the Monarchs pushed it to 29-16, but it was too little too late as the Bishops' Sydney Bens finished with the kill to win 30-16. Yeatman led Methodist with 14 kills while sophomore Tiffany Zellhart finished with 32 assists. Sophomore Jordan Grady had 24 digs for the match. Methodist will finish their regular season at Mary Baldwin on Saturday with matches at 12 pm and 2:30 pm. |
