Methodist Defeats Shenandoah Before Falling to Averett
Junior Sara Yeatman registers 34 kills on the day

DANVILLE, VA - The Monarchs won their first USA South Conference match of the year in a 3-1 (30-17, 26-30, 30-22, 30-20) victory over Shenandoah on Saturday. In their second match of the day, Methodist fell 1-3 (14-30, 30-27, 14-30, 18-30) to Averett. The Monarchs move to 6-6 on the year and 1-2 in the conference.

In the first match of the day, the Monarchs won the first game over Shenandoah 30-17. Shenandoah came back to win game two 26-30. The Monarchs settled in and finished the match with wins in game three and four. Junior Sara Yeatman rallied for 24 kills and just four errors on the day. Sophomore Taylor Cates added 19 kills while sophomore Laura Gilbert made 13 kills. Cates added 14 digs while sophomore Jordan Grady had 13 and freshman Angie Paz made 12. Sophomore setter Tiffany Zellhart registered 62 assists in the match.

After the win over Shenandoah, Methodist transitioned to face Averett. The Cougars won game one, but the Monarchs came back to win game two 30-27. Averett went on to win games three and four to secure the match win. Yeatman added another 10 kills while Gilbert had seven and sophomore Allison Averitt added six. Zellhart had 21 assists while Grady led the team with 14 digs.

The Monarchs return to host Meredith on Wednesday at 7 pm.
