Methodist Drops Two Conference Matches
Junior Sara Yeatman leads with 19 kills on the day

GREENSBORO, NC - The Monarchs traveled to Greensboro College on Saturday for a USA South quad match. Methodist lost in three games to Christopher Newport (18-30, 12-30, 26-30) and then dropped another 0-3 match to Ferrum (26-30, 16-30, 27-30). With the losses, Methodist falls to 11-9 on the season and 6-5 in the USA South Conference.

Christopher Newport dominated early in the first match of the day with an early 13-3 lead behind the serving of Christie Kirby. The Monarchs battled back to 19-15, but the Captains went on to win game one 30-18. Christopher Newport rolled to a 30-12 win in game two, but Methodist played it tight in game three. The Monarchs took a 17-11 lead with a service ace from sophomore Kelly Shipkowski, but Christopher Newport came back to tie it at 17. An attack error from the Captains and an ace from freshman Jennie Price gave the Monarchs a 19-17 lead. Both teams continued to trade points before the score was tied at 22. The Captains took over and went on to win 30-26 for the match.

Junior Sara Yeatman made nine kills in the match while sophomore Taylor Cates had eight. Sophomore Kelsey Carter dished out nine assists while Price had eight. Sophomore Jordan Grady registered 21 digs.

In the second match of the day, the Monarchs pushed Ferrum late, but lost in game one 26-30. The Panthers had 16 kills in game two to finish with the 16-30 win. During the third game, the Monarchs moved to within one at 27-28 on a kill from Yeatman, but Ferrum finished with the final two points to win 30-27.

Yeatman added 10 kills to her day total with sophomore Allison Averitt picking up seven. Grady finished with 25 digs while Carter added 21 assists.

The Monarchs will host Greensboro on Wednesday at 7 pm.
