September 22, 2007 RALEIGH, NC - Methodist continued their winning ways from Friday night with two wins on Saturday over Mary Baldwin and Peace. The Monarchs opened with a three game sweep of Mary Baldwin (30-21, 35-33, 30-13) before coming back against Peace to win 3-1 (25-30, 30-25, 31-29, 30-14). With the two wins, Methodist improves to 10-7 on the season and 5-3 in the USA South Conference. The Monarchs battled through the first two games against Mary Baldwin before shutting them down quickly in game three to secure the match win. Sophomore Allison Averitt led the team with 16 kills in the match while sophomore Taylor Cates had seven. Sophomore setter Tiffany Zellhart aided the team with 39 assists in three games. Junior Sara Yeatman finished with 19 digs while Cates had 15. Peace won the first game 25-30 over the Monarchs, but Methodist battled back to win three straight and earn their fifth conference match. Cates led the Monarchs with 15 kills while Averitt and Yeatman had 12 a piece. Zellhart dished out 52 assists with 22 digs while Grady finished with 25 digs in the match. The Monarchs will travel to N.C. Wesleyan on Wednesday to face the Bishops at 7 pm. |
