October 27, 2007 STAUNTON, VA - Methodist stumbled in a 1-3 loss to Mary Baldwin to start the day, but came back with a 3-0 (30-25, 30-21, 30-25) win over Peace to finish the regular season. The Monarchs move to 16-15 overall this season and 9-9 in the USA South. In the second match of the day, the Monarchs made a clean sweep of things with a 3-0 sweep over Peace College. Game one started close with the score tied at 22 before Methodist began to pull away to a 30-25 win. In game two, freshman Angie Paz served eleven points to help give the Monarchs a 20-6 advantage early. Peace tried to make a comeback, but Methodist took a two game lead with the 30-21 win. The third game was similar to the first with neither team able to pull away. The Monarchs closed the match with the 30-25 win. Sophomore Allison Averitt led the team with 14 kills and only one error for .433 hitting. Sophomore Jordan Grady and Paz each had 14 digs while sophomore Tiffany Zellhart finished with 34 assists in the match. With the regular season complete, the Monarchs earned the sixth seed entering the USA South Tournament. Methodist will travel to #3 seeded Averett on Tuesday to face the Cougars at 7 pm.
