Women's Basketball Dominates Bennett 79-56
Senior Stacy Williams scores 28 points in the win

GREENSBORO, NC- The women's basketball team is riding a three game winning streak after taking out Bennett College on Saturday afternoon in a 79-56 win.  Senior Stacy Williams led the Lady Monarchs with a career-high 28 points.  Methodist improves to 7-6 overall this season.

Both teams kept the game close early with the Monarchs taking a one point lead with 12:55 remaining when Williams scored a layup and made her free throw after being fouled on the way into the basket.  The team took the momentum and capitalized on Bennett turnovers with 10-0 run over the next two minutes.  Bennett closed the gap to two with a 3-pointer by Menika Epps, but another Monarch run helped Methodist take a ten point lead into the locker room at halftime.

During the second half Methodist extended their lead to as many as 24 points with multiple players contributing whether in points, rebounds, or assists.  In the final two minutes with the Monarchs leading 73-54, freshmen Tierra Poole and LaQuanza Alexander combined for 2-for-4 from the free throw line to extend the lead to 23.  Poole followed up with an offensive rebound and a layup before Bennett scored on the other end.  Poole topped the scoring off with another layup with 26 seconds remaining for the 79-56 win.

Williams added 11 rebounds to her 28 points while sophomore Kristen Whitehurst had 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Methodist will resume conference play on Monday at NC Wesleyan at 5:30 pm.
