November 17, 2006 In the first half the Monarchs went 13-28 from the field, but only earned one trip to the free throw line, going 1-for-2. Down by 10 at halftime, the team made a strong push in the second half out scoring Catholic 45-38 buoyed by 12 points from the line. Catholic was still leading by 10 with more than three minutes left when the Monarchs started to close the gap. Junior Lisa Jackson started things with a 3-pointer before senior Stacy Williams pulled down a defensive rebound on a Catholic miss. Freshman Michaela Myers then drove in for a lay-up to move within five. The Cardinals scored at the other end before both teams exchanged free throws to make the score 72-65 with a minute remaining. Sophomore Zan Messer hit her first three throw before Catholic grabbed the rebound on the second. A Catholic turnover gave the ball back to the Monarchs and junior Ashley Harris finished the transition for a lay-up. The Cardinals were fouled and hit both of their free throws, but Messer countered with a lay-up to move within four. The Monarchs fouled to regain possession, but Catholic hit both free throws. At the other end, Messer found Jackson to sink a three, but the game ended with the Monarchs down 73-76. The team out rebounded Catholic 44-32 and scored 36 of their points in the paint compared to Catholic's 14. Harris led the Monarchs with 15 points while Jackson finished with 13. Williams went 7-for-10 from the free throw line and grabbed 7 boards in the loss. Jackie DeBorger led Catholic with 22 points while Kristen Linderoth scored 16. Methodist will face host Randolph-Macon on Saturday at 4 pm. Randolph-Macon defeated Averett 88-55 on Friday. |
