Women's Basketball Falls to Ferrum 63-81
Sophomore Zan Messer topped career-highs with 8 assists and four steals

FERRUM, VA-  The Monarchs traveled to Ferrum on Saturday for their first road conference game of the season.  The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and ran away with the 81-63 win in the second half.  Methodist falls to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the USA South while Ferrum improves to 9-4 this season and 2-0 in the conference.

Ferrum scored the first nine points of the game before the Monarchs scored on a layup by senior Ashley Smith in the fifth minute of the first half.  The Panthers extended their lead to as many as 11 points before the Monarchs began a run of their own.  With less than 10 minutes remaining in the half, Methodist went on a 9-0 run to move within two.  Both teams traded baskets with the Monarchs still only down by two with 1:10 to go in the half.  Panther Shanita Bennett hit two free throws and a 3-pointer to close out the half with a seven point cushion. 

Monarch sophomore Amanda Underwood scored a free throw for the first point of the second half, but the Panthers took over building their lead over the next twenty minutes.  Sophomore Zan Messer closed the lead to fourteen on a layup with less than two minutes remaining in the game, but four free throws by the Panthers ended the game for the Monarchs.

Once again turnovers proved costly for Methodist as the Panthers scored 43 points off of the Monarchs' 32 turnovers.  Senior Stacy Williams led the Monarchs in scoring with 16 points while sophomore Kristen Whitehurst finished with 10 points.  Senior Antionett Holliday dominated the boards pulling in 9 rebounds to go along with her 8 points. 

The Monarchs will travel to Averett on Tuesday to face the Cougars at 5:30 pm before they return home to play the Peace Pacers Thursday at 7 pm.
