Ferrum Defeats Methodist 81-73
Senior Stacy Williams scores 21 points in the loss

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Lady Monarchs were working towards their second upset in a week when the Ferrum Panthers finished strong in the second half to win 81-73.  Methodist moves to 11-8 overall and 5-4 in the USA South while Ferrum stands at 15-5 overall and 8-1 in the conference.

Ferrum held an early 18-10 lead after the first ten minutes of play, but the Lady Monarchs went on a 9-0 run to take a one point lead on a three-pointer by sophomore Zan Messer with 7:39 remaining.  The teams traded baskets before the score was tied at 26 with 4:08 to go.  Ferrum went up by four before junior Ashley Harris move Methodist within two on a jumper with 1:47 remaining.  The Panthers hit two three-pointers on consecutive possessions and closed with two free throws by Ali Davenport to take a ten point lead into the locker room.

The Panthers retained their lead in the second half, but the Lady Monarchs found their momentum five minutes into the half.  Down by eleven, the team went on another 9-0 run to close the gap to two.  Ferrum responded with two free throws and a three-pointer while Methodist's shots kept rattling out.  The Panthers had a nine point lead when senior Antionett Holliday scored a layup followed by a steal by Harris to feed senior Stacy Williams for a layup at the other end.  Harris scored with 9:08 on the clock and Methodist capitalized on Ferrum turnovers with a layup by Messer to come within one point with the score 61-60 Ferrum.  The Panthers extended their lead during the remainder of the half taking advantage of Methodist miscues.  With 3:07 to go, Ferrum was leading 75-70 after a three-pointer by junior Courtney Bissette, but it would be the Lady Monarchs' last field goal of the game.  The Panthers went on to win 81-73.

Williams finished with 21 points while Harris had 14 and Bissette finished with four three-pointers for 12 points.  Holliday added 8 points and a game-high 9 rebounds.

Methodist will host Averett on Tuesday at 5:30 pm in conjunction with Take a Kid to the Game day.
