Monarchs Win 79-72 Over Goucher College
Senior Stacy Williams paces Methodist with 22 points

BALTIMORE, MD-  Goucher took an early lead, winning by as many as eight points in the first half before the Monarchs came from behind to defeat the Gophers 79-72.  The win evens Methodist's overall record at 4-4 as they prepare to open conference play on Wednesday.  Goucher falls to 2-10 after the loss.

Sophomore Amanda Underwood started things off for the Monarchs sinking a 3-pointer just ten seconds into play, but Gopher Shadae Swan tied things with a 3-pointer of her own on the way to Goucher's early lead.  The Gophers had a 21-13 lead with 9:22 remaining in the first half before Methodist went on a 11-2 run to take a one point lead with less than seven minutes on the clock.  The two teams exchanged baskets and the lead before the Monarchs took the lead for good with a layup by senior Antionett Holliday with 4:58 remaining in the half.  The Monarchs took a 41-35 lead into the lockerroom at halftime and continued to extend their lead in the second half.

With less than four minutes left in the second half, sophomore Kristen Whitehurst hit a layup with an assist from sophomore Zan Messer.  Senior Stacy Williams then scored one of her own before Whitehurst hit another layup to take a 76-61 lead, the largest of the day.  Williams finished with 22 points and Whitehurst scored 17, while Holliday registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.  Messer dished out a career-high seven assists in the win.

The Monarchs will host Greensboro College on Wednesday at 5:30 for their first conference action.
