Greensboro Defeats Lady Monarchs 74-66
Junior Ashley Harris leads the Monarchs with 20 points

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Greensboro and Methodist women were even at 31-31 all-time coming into tonight's conference opener.  The Monarchs took an early lead, but the Pride capitalized on turnovers and stole the 74-66 win.  Methodist moves to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the USA South while Greensboro improves to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Methodist took the 11-10 lead on a layup by sophomore Kristen Whitehurst with less than 16 minutes remaining in the half.  The Monarchs continued to build on their lead over the next five minutes.  Senior Antionett Holliday scored the layup from senior Stacy Williams to go up 26-18.  On the following Greensboro possession junior Ashley Harris blocked Greensboro's Staci Humphrey's shot with Williams getting the rebound to build the Monarchs offense.  Freshman Michaela Myers found Harris to hit the jumper at the other end and extend the lead to ten. 

Greensboro then went on a 15-0 run to regain the lead at 33-28.  Both teams exchanged baskets going into halftime with Greensboro taking a one point lead into the lockerroom.  The Monarchs struggled early in the second half while Greensboro's Humphrey found her rhythm and went on to score 32 points on the night.  Methodist closed the lead to six with 47 seconds remaining in the game, but the Pride's Bobbie Barnes and Humphrey both hit two free throws a piece to go up 74-64.  Monarch sophomore Zan Messer hit two free throws with sixteen seconds remaining, but Greensboro ran the clock out to end the game.

Harris led the Monarchs with 20 points while Holliday had 12 and Williams and sophomore Amanda Underwood both had 11 a piece.  Holliday paced the team with 9 rebounds.

The Monarchs will travel to Ferrum College on Saturday to play the Panthers at 2 pm.
