January 16, 2008 GREENSBORO, NC - The Methodist women's basketball team led early against Greensboro, but the Pride came back to deal the Monarchs their first USA South loss. Methodist moves to 6-4 this season and 2-1 in the USA South while Greensboro improves to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Methodist led through most of the first half until Greensboro took over late. The Pride led by seven with just over four minutes to go in the half, but the Monarchs cut the lead to one on a basket by freshman Kayla Thompson with 21 seconds remaining. Greensboro closed the half with two free throws to take a 34-31 lead into the locker room at halftime. There were four ties early in the second half, but Greensboro started to edge away from the Monarchs. The Pride led by 11 with less than four minutes to go. Methodist senior Ashley Harris cut the lead to four on a fastbreak layup with 20 seconds to go and the Monarchs called a timeout. With Methodist forced to foul, the Pride went 2-for-4 from the line to take the 72-66 win. Harris led Methodist with 20 points while junior Dezzire Gilliard tallied her first double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
