Methodist Finishes Strong With 65-52 Win Over Guilford
Stacy Williams cleans up with 22 points and 8 rebounds

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  After going 0-2 last weekend at the Randolph-Macon Tip-Off, the Monarchs have really turned things around to win their last three, sweeping the Methodist/InnKeeper Turkey Shootout this weekend.  Like yesterday, Guilford took an early lead, but the Monarchs battled to win the game 65-52.  The Monarchs are now 3-2 while Guilford falls to 1-4.

Guilford led for the first fifteen minutes before a layup by junior Ashley Harris gave the Monarchs a 19-18 lead.  The two teams exchanged the lead before a three-pointer by Quaker Ann Seufer tied the game at 25 with just over 2 minutes remaining in the half.  Freshman Michaela Myers came up with another big three to take the 28-25 lead and the Monarchs would maintain the lead for the remainder of the game.

With seven minutes remaining in the second half, Guilford's Alexa Williams hit a jumper to move within one, but Methodist extended their lead to as many as 16 points in the final minutes.  Junior Lisa Jackson hit two threes less than 45 seconds apart with less than four minutes to seal the deal.

Senior Stacy Williams had a game high 22 points and 8 rebounds staying strong in the post.  Sophomore Kristen Whitehurst added 11 points and 8 rebounds while Jackson finished with 10 points and 6 boards.  Brittany Bumgarner led the Quakers with nine points while Jasmine Wood added eight.  Shevon Hackett led with seven rebounds.

In the first game of the day, Piedmont defeated Ferrum 80-69.  The All-Classic team consisted of Ali Davenport (Ferrum), Shenna Trimiar (Piedmont), Alexa Williams (Guilford) and Stacy Williams (Methodist).  Methodist's Lisa Jackson was named the tournament MVP.

The Monarchs will use this week to prepare to play at LaGrange on Saturday at 2 pm before a rematch at Piedmont on Sunday at 2 pm.
