The Methodist University women’s basketball team has surged into the top of the pack of NCAA Division III South Region teams as the Monarchs have captured at least a share of three Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season titles, have won three DIAC Tournament championships and advanced to two NCAA Division III National Tournaments.

The Monarchs posted at least 16 wins in six straight campaigns from 1997-2003 with the school’s best record coming in the 1991-92 season when Methodist posted a 22-6 mark. Under current head coach DeeDee Jarman, the Monarchs have won 58 percent of their games.

The 2001-02 season saw the Monarchs earn the school's first-ever NCAA-III National Tournament appearance as Methodist earned the DIAC's automatic bid by winning the DIAC Tournament. The NCAA Division III National Tournament bid was the first in the 30-year history of the Methodist women’s basketball program. The DIAC Tournament championship was only the second in the history of the program.

In the 2002-03 season, Methodist came out of nowhere to repeat as DIAC Tournament champions after finishing fifth in the conference during the regular season. However, the Monarchs closed out the regular season with seven straight victories, and then proceeded to win the conference tournament to gain its second straight NCAA Division III National Tournament bid.

Individually, the Monarchs have totaled 28 All-Conference selections, one DIAC Player of the Year honor, a USA South Rookie of the Year, and a pair of DIAC Coach of the Year honors.
