Women's Basketball Presents Check to Kay Yow
The Monarchs raised $3,350 for the Kay Yow/WBCA Breast Cancer Fund
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Methodist University women's basketball team traveled to N.C. State University on Thursday afternoon to visit Wolfpack head coach Kay Yow. Last month, the Monarchs hosted a "Think Pink" game night to increase awareness and raise fund for breast cancer. The team decided to donate their $3,350 in proceeds to the Kay Yow/WBCA Breast Cancer fund. release

Monarchs to Join USA South for Senior Challenge

Seven student-athletes will face off against the ODAC Sunday
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the USA South Athletic Conference have once again come together to conduct The ODAC/USA South Senior Basketball Challenge. The event, in its third year, will consist of both a women's and men's all-star game. The games will be played in Everett Gymnasium on the campus of the USA South's own N.C. Wesleyan College on Sunday, March 16. The event will begin with the women's game at 1:00 p.m. and conclude with the men's game at 3:00 p.m. Tickets will be $3 and may be purchased at the game. release

Christopher Newport Defeats Methodist in Semifinals 70-68
Senior Chelsale Hester scored 14 points with five rebounds
NEWPORT NEWS, VA- The Methodist women's basketball team was hoping the third time would be a charm, but Christopher Newport defeated the Monarchs 70-68 to advance to the USA South Tournament Championship. Methodist finishes the season at 19-8, the most wins in five years. Christopher Newport stands at 21-6 this season. release

Methodist student-athletes receive season conference honors
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for women's basketball. A total of 26 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams for women's basketball. Methodist's Ashley Harris and Dezzire Gilliard have been honored by the conference. release

Monarchs to face Christopher Newport at 6 pm in Newport News, Va. Friday
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Mary Baldwin hung with the Monarchs early, but Methodist pulled away late to win 77-57 and advance to the USA South Conference Tournament semifinals in Newport News, Va. Christopher Newport defeated Averett to host the Monarchs. Methodist moves to 19-7 this season while Mary Baldwin finishes at 11-14. release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Methodist women's basketball team entered the Riddle Center Saturday afternoon with hopes of a USA South Conference Championship and an undefeated home record this season, but the Christopher Newport Captains spoiled their efforts, handing the Monarchs a 60-58 loss. Methodist finishes the regular season 18-7 overall and 14-4 in the USA South while Christopher Newport moves to 18-6 overall and 14-4 in the conference. release

Methodist women's basketball fans donate more than $2,500 towards Kay Yow/WBCA Breast Cancer Fund
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The March F. Riddle Center was covered in pink Thursday night, and not just because it was Valentine's Day. The Methodist players and fans were wearing everything pink in recognition of the WBCA's "Think Pink" Week to raise awareness for breast cancer. The Monarchs have gone 3-0 in the uniforms thus far including an 86-48 win over Peace Thursday. Methodist improves to 16-5 overall and 12-2 in the USA South while Peace drops to 5-16 this season and 1-13 in the conference. release

Senior guard Courtney Bissette records first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds
FERRUM, VA- Things started slow for the Methodist women's basketball team on Saturday, but things started coming together as they overcame a 12 point deficit to earn the 71-60 win over Ferrum College. Both teams are now at the top of the USA South standings with 10-2 conference records while Methodist does hold the edge in head-to-head competition over Ferrum. Methodist is 14-5 overall this season while Ferrum stands at 12-7. release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - It was a tight first half, but the Monarchs shot better than 72 percent from the field in the second half to cruise to a 75-60 win over Meredith College. Methodist won their fifth straight to improve to 11-4 this season and 7-1 in the USA South. Meredith falls to 5-12 overall and 2-9 in the conference. release

Methodist University Announces Annual “Take a Kid to the Game" Day
Come support the Monarchs at their men’s and women’s basketball games February 6
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Methodist University has set a date for its annual NCAA® Basketball Take A Kid to the Game® day for February 6, 2008 where they will host the Greensboro College Pride at 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm in the March F. Riddle Center on the campus of Methodist University. Area youth 14 and under are invited to attend this special event free of charge. Youth will have the opportunity to experience the college game-day atmosphere and some exciting action as they watch the Monarchs compete for a win over the Pride. release

Senior Courtney Bissette scored first for the Monarchs and they never trailed as they cruised to victory. The Monarchs used an early lead to set the tempo and held off the Squirrels late to wrap up the win. ATLANTA, GA- The Methodist women's basketball team took on Oglethorpe for the second time this season and almost doubled their point production but lost 70-92. Ranked 17th in the country, Oglethorpe came from behind to stay undefeated at 8-0 this season. Methodist moves to 4-2 on the year. release

Methodist Donates More than 1,500 Canned Goods
Women's basketball team wins school-wide competition with 693 items donated
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The USA South Athletic Conference recently hosted its annual "Cans Across the Conference" event. Each conference member collects canned goods and non-perishable food items throughout the fall semester to donate to a local charity while competiting against the other institutions. The Methodist University community donated 1,509 items towards the conference total of 17,389 items. release

EMORY, VA - The Lady Monarchs tipped off the 2007-08 season on Friday night with a 81-45 loss to Oglethorpe University. Oglethorpe jumped out early to a 50-23 lead in the first half. The Lady Monarchs had a stronger second half only down by nine, but Oglethorpe prevailed with the win. release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Methodist women’s basketball team had its fair share of highs and lows last season on their way to a 13-13 record. Head coach DeeDee Jarman was disappointed with the season’s outcome finishing fifth in the USA South and falling in the quarterfinals of the Conference Tournament. “This season we want to finish above .500.” she said. “We are not settling for mediocrity.” release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist University basketball teams, cheerleading and dance teams as well as the Student Activities Committee sponsored their annual Hoopla Frenzy Thursday night. Student-athletes and fans had the opportunity to participate in games to win prizes. The night culminated with both teams running a ten minute scrimmage. release

Jarman Inducted into High School Hall of Fame
Methodist women's basketball coach part of North Lenoir Hall of Fame inaugural class
LA GRANGE, NC- Methodist head women's basketball coach, DeeDee Jarman was inducted into the North Lenoir High School Hall of Fame earlier this month. A former three-sport athlete at North Lenoir, Jarman was honored along with Johnny Shepherd and Wayne Floyd as part of the inaugural induction class. release
