Methodist Sweeps Meredith With 71-59 Win
Sophomore Amanda Underwood breaks out with 19 point game

RALEIGH, NC- The Lady Monarchs took over in the middle of the first half and never looked back as they went on to defeat the Meredith Angels for the second time this season.  Methodist improves to 9-6 overall while Meredith falls to 1-13 on the season.

Meredith started out strong building an early six point lead before the Monarchs started finding their rhythm.  Methodist took their first lead of the game on a layup by sophomore Amanda Underwood with 8:10 remaining in the half.  Underwood came back down on the next possession to score and finished the three-point play with a free throw after being fouled.  Junior Ashley Harris hit a jumper with five and a half left and sophomore Kristen Whitehurst went 2-for-2 from the free throw line to build an eight point lead for Methodist.  Meredith responded with two layups, but the Lady Monarchs finished the half with a nine point lead.

During the second half, Methodist led by as many as 19 points as they were able to capitalize on Meredith turnovers and dominate the paint.  The team shot almost 45 percent from the field with 17 steals on the night.  The Angels closed the gap to nine points with 8:55 to go in the second half, but Methodist came back with a seven unanswered points to put the game out of reach.

Senior Stacy Williams led the team with 21 points and seven rebounds to go along with 5 steals and 2 blocks.  Underwood scored a career-high 19 points while Whitehurst finished with 11 points and five rebounds. 

Methodist will host Christopher Newport on Saturday at 2 pm.
