Methodist Holds Off Meredith 75-60
Freshman Adriana Wilson led the team in rebounds with seven

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - It was a tight first half, but the Monarchs shot better than 72 percent from the field in the second half to cruise to a 75-60 win over Meredith College. Methodist won their fifth straight to improve to 11-4 this season and 7-1 in the USA South. Meredith falls to 5-12 overall and 2-9 in the conference.

Meredith came out fast to take an early lead, but junior Amanda Underwood's 3-pointer at the 14:14 mark in the first half gave Methodist an 8-6 lead and continued to build on it throughout the game. Meredith closed the lead to two in the final five minutes of the half, but the Monarchs moved the ball around and extended the lead to eight on a 3-pointer from junior Zan Messer. Meredith's Nicole Hall hit a jummper and a three to move within three, but Messer responded with her own 3-pointer. Hall traveled back down the court to hit another three from 10 feet off the 3-point arc before Methodist's Dezzire Gilliard scored a jumper on the other end. Methodist led by five before Meredith's Courtney Kreber threw up a three at the buzzer to move within two at halftime.

The Angels tied the game right away, but senior Courtney Bissette hit a 3-pointer to take the lead. Meredith trailed by three with just under 14 minutes to play, but the Monarch defense held the Angels scoreless for the next six and a half minutes to take a 58-43 lead. Hall hit her fourth 3-pointer of the day with 3:14 left on the clock to cut the lead to 11, but the Monarchs used free throws to close out with the 75-60 win.

Underwood led the Monarchs in scoring with 11 points while senior Chelsale Hester scored 10 points. Both Gilliard and Messer added nine while freshman Adriana Wilson led the team in rebounds with seven.

Methodist will take the road this weekend. The Monarchs will face Christopher Newport Saturday at 2 pm before playing at Shenandoah on Sunday at 2 pm.
