December 15, 2007 ATLANTA, GA- The Methodist women's basketball team took on Oglethorpe for the second time this season and almost doubled their point production but lost 70-92. Ranked 17th in the country, Oglethorpe came from behind to stay undefeated at 8-0 this season. Methodist moves to 4-2 on the year. Oglethorpe scored first and took a 15-7 lead early, but the Monarchs went on a 16-1 run to take a seven point lead of their own with 11:02 remaining. The score was tied twice at 23 and 26 before Oglethorpe went on to lead 49-34 at halftime. During the second half, Oglethorpe would jump out and Methodist would try to close the gap, but Oglethorpe put a stop to their chances. The Petrels went on to win the game 92-70. Junior Amanda Underwood led the Monarchs in scoring with 13 points in just her second game this season. Senior Courtney Bissette scored 12 points while juniors Dezzire Gilliard and Kristen Whitehurst added 10 points a piece. Whitehurst finished the double-double with 10 rebounds. Methodist will take a break for the holidays before traveling to Piedmont January 3. |
