![]() Ohio Dominican rolls past Lady Monarchs 92-65 at Bethany Holliday Tournament Forsberg records first ever double-double in Methodist defeat BETHANY, WVa. – Playing their final set of games before the holiday break, the Methodist Lady Monarchs suffered a 92-65 defeat to a tough Ohio Dominican squad on Friday in the semifinals of the Bethany Holiday Tournament. The defeat drops Methodist to 3-4 overall on the season. Ohio Dominican, an NAIA program, won it with its shooting, especially from the perimeter. The Panthers shot 54 percent from the field, including an impressive 53 percent (10-for-19) from 3-pont range. Meanwhile, Ohio Dominican limited Methodist to 33 percent shooting from the field, including only 10 percent (1-for-10) from 3-point range. Before everyone could get settled, Ohio Dominican jumped out to an early 10-0 lead behind 3-point baskets by Katalin Beck and Krissy Haines. Methodist cut the deficit to six points on Lisa Jackson’s 3-point basket, and trailed 19-10 with 11:58 remaining in the first half. However, Ohio Dominican responded with three consecutive 3-point baskets by Cassidy Wertman, Megan Niese and Beck to take a 39-21 lead with 6:07 remaining. The Panthers’ largest first half lead was 20 points, 43-23 on a lay-up by Amanda Ritzler at the 4:42 mark. Methodist was able to cut the deficit to 14 points on Ann Forsberg’s 3-point play with 1:48 remaining, and the Lady Monarchs trailed 49-34 at halftime. The Lady Monarchs never got closer than 15 points in the second half as Ohio Dominican continued the onslaught from the perimeter. Beck’s 3-point basket at the 15:46 mark gave the Panthers at 58-38 lead. They increased it to 78-53 on a lay-up by Maggie Andrews with 6:49 remaining. Ohio Dominican took its largest lead of 32 points with 1:03 remaining. Forsberg continued her impressive play for Methodist. The freshman forward scored 14 points to pace the Lady Monarchs on 6-for-6 shooting from 3-point range. She also had 13 rebounds for her first career double-double. Stacy Williams scored 13 points and Jackson added 11 points. For Ohio Dominican (7-1), Ritzler paced a balanced scoring attack with 15 points, while Haines scored 14 points. Wertman scored 13 points and Beck and Niese each added 11 points. Methodist plays in the consolation game on Saturday at 1 p.m. against either Alma or Bethany. |
