February 8, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- It was a tale of two halves as the Peace Pacers overcame a nine point deficit in the first half to defeat Methodist 75-69. Methodist moves to 12-9 overall and 6-5 in the USA South while Peace improves to 8-13 this season and 2-9 in the conference. Methodist took a nine point lead with 5:58 remaining on a putback by senior Antionett Holliday. Peace responded with a three-pointer by Brittany Lynn. The Pacers went on to tie the game at 31 with 22 seconds remaining in the half. Peace got the best of the free throws in the final seconds to take a 35-32 lead into the locker room. Peace came out firing in the second half to extend their lead to 15 with ten minutes remaining. The Lady Monarchs starting putting things together in an attempt to close the gap. Sophomore Kristen Whitehurst hit a layup to move within seven with 1:01 to go. Whitehurst was fouled with 34 seconds on the clock and hit her second free throw to move within six. Methodist fouled on the inbounds play and Peace's Amanda Cross scored both of her free throws to extend the lead back to eight. Junior Ashley Harris sank a jumper with 25 seconds remaining but the Pacers responded with a quick layup on the other end. Whitehurst finished with another layup, but time expired giving Peace the 75-69 win. Whitehurst led the team with 17 points and added six rebounds in the loss. Senior Stacy Williams scored 14 points to go along with 8 rebounds. Holliday registered her fifth double-double this season with 10 points and 10 rebounds while junior Courtney Bissette added 10 points. Methodist will host Mary Baldwin on Saturday at 3 pm. |
