February 14, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The March F. Riddle Center was covered in pink Thursday night, and not just because it was Valentine's Day. The Methodist players and fans were wearing everything pink in recognition of the WBCA's "Think Pink" Week to raise awareness for breast cancer. The Monarchs have gone 3-0 in the uniforms thus far including an 86-48 win over Peace Thursday. Methodist improves to 16-5 overall and 12-2 in the USA South while Peace drops to 5-16 this season and 1-13 in the conference. The Lady Monarchs did not waste any time against the Pacers and jumped out to a quick 19-9 lead on a three point play from freshman Adriana Wilson. Wilson hit the jumper and finished the play with the free throw with 12:13 to go in the first half. Methodist extended their lead to 21 on two free throws from freshman Kayla Thompson and finished the half with a 43-26 lead on the jumper from sophomore Michaela Myers. Peace pushed the game to 46-28 early in the second half, but Methodist held the Pacers scoreless for the next four and a half minutes while scoring 15 unanswered points of their own. The Lady Monarchs had back-to-back 3-pointers from senior Courtney Bissette and Myers while junior Kristen Whitehurst scored two baskets and freshman Dawn Sanderson hit the hook shot and the free throw after the foul. Myers finished the run with a steal and a layup for the 61-28 lead. Methodist continued to dominate Peace throughout the second half, leading by as many as 40 points late in the game. Methodist finished with the 86-48 win. Methodist had four players in double figures led by Sanderson with 13 points. Whitehurst finished with 12 while senior Chelsale Hester added 11 and junior Dezzire Gilliard scored 10 points. Wilson led the team with six rebounds. Methodist will travel to Mary Baldwin for a 2 pm game on Saturday.
