January 3, 2008 DEMOREST, GA- Methodist defeated Piedmont earlier this season in their Turkey Shootout, but Piedmont sought revenge on Thursday 50-40 on their own court. It was a tight game early before the Lions pulled away for the win. Methodist moves to 4-3 this season while Piedmont improves to 10-2. Piedmont scored first, but Methodist took a 7-2 lead jump started by a 3-pointer from senior Courtney Bissette. Piedmont tied the game at seven, but the Monarchs responded with a free throw from junior Dezzire Gilliard and a jumper by junior Ann Forsberg to regain the lead. Piedmont took a 13-10 lead, but Methodist freshman Adriana Wilson scored to cut the gap to one. The Lions closed the half on a 7-0 run in the final two minutes to hold a 20-12 advantage at halftime. The second half started with both teams struggling to score. Piedmont found their rhythm and built a 17 point lead with just over three minutes to go in the game. The Monarchs pushed forward with a 12-5 run in the final minutes, but Piedmont prevailed 50-40. Senior Chelsale Hester led with 8 points while Gilliard finished with 7. Each added five rebounds in the loss. Methodist will open USA South Conference play at home on Saturday against Mary Baldwin at 2 pm. |
