November 25, 2006 Piedmont took the early lead in the first half before Methodist took over with a 3-pointer by freshman Michaela Myers to go up 14-12 with just over 12 minutes remaining. Piedmont's Beth Adcock tied the game at 26 with 2:08 left in the first half, but the Monarchs went on a 7-2 run in the final two minutes to make the score 33-28 at halftime. Methodist came back in the second half expanding their lead to 10 at two different points, but Piedmont stayed just close enough to keep the Monarchs fighting. Rebounding became a team effort as four different players pulled in five or more boards. Methodist scored 16 second chance points following their own missed shots. Junior Lisa Jackson knocked down two 3-pointers on the way to a game-leading 19 points. She was also 5-for-6 from behind the free throw line including two in the final minute that essentially put the game out of reach for the Lions. Senior Antionett Holliday was 6-for-7 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line to score 16 points. Holliday and senior Stacy Williams each had six rebounds while Chelsale Hester had five. Ferrum defeated Guilford in the first game of the tournament 84-73. Ferrum will take on Piedmont Sunday at 2 before Methodist concludes the Turkey Shootout against Guilford at 4 pm. |
