February 3, 2008 WINCHESTER, VA- After a slight setback against Christopher Newport on Saturday, the Methodist women's basketball team battled back to earn an 18 point victory over the Shenandoah Hornets. Methodist moves to 12-5 this season and 8-2 in the USA South. Senior Courtney Bissette scored the first basket of the game when she sank a 3-pointer just 51 seconds into the contest. Shenandoah took the lead after five minutes, but junior Zan Messer gave Methodist the lead again on a 3-pointer with 13:50 minutes to go in the half. Shenandoah regained the lead, but Methodist junior Ann Forsberg hit a jumper in the paint to give Methodist the lead for good with just over four minutes to go in the half. The Monarchs went on to take a 36-26 lead at halftime. Methodist led by as many as 27 points in the second half before taking the 65-47 victory. Senior Ashley Harris led the Monarchs with 19 points while Forsberg finished with 10 points. Bissette and junior Dezzire Gilliard finished with seven rebounds a piece. Methodist returns home to host Greensboro on Wednesday at 5:30 pm in conjunction with the "Take a Kid to the Game" initiative.
