Shenandoah Drops Methodist 90-65

WINCHESTER, VA- The Lady Monarchs needed a win over Shenandoah to have a chance to host a USA South quarterfinal on Tuesday.  Down by four at halftime, the Hornets took control in the second half on the way to a 90-65 defeat of the Lady Monarchs.  Methodist falls to 13-12 overall and 7-7 in the USA South while Shenandoah moves to 16-8 overall and 9-5 in the conference.

The first half featured four ties and two lead changes.  Shenandoah took an early lead before a jumper by senior Stacy Williams gave Methodist the 17-15 lead with 12:05 remaining in the half.  The Lady Monarchs extended their lead to six before the Hornets tied the game at 27 on free throws by Alicia Sanders.  Methodist responded with a three-pointer by sophomore Zan Messer before the Hornets closed the half on a 11-4 run.

Only behind by four at halftime, the Hornets came out ready to revenge their loss from late January going on a 15-2 run over the first six minutes of the second half.  Shenandoah continued to build their lead throughout the half shooting 50 percent for the day in contrast to the Lady Monarchs 32 percent.

Junior Ashley Harris led the Lady Monarchs with 15 points while sophomore Kristen Whitehurst added 11 points.  Senior Antionett Holliday had 7 rebounds in the loss.

Methodist finishes fifth in the USA South at the end of the regular season.  Shenandoah will host the Lady Monarchs in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday.
