Methodist Defeats Shenandoah 64-41
Junior Dezzire Gilliard led the team with 11 points

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Methodist carries momentum into Christopher Newport showdown with 64-41 win over Shenandoah Friday night. Methodist improves to 18-6 overall and 14-3 in the USA South while Shenandoah drops to 11-13 overall and 9-8 in the conference.

The Monarchs jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, but Shenandoah came back to lead 14-11 with 11:12 to go in the half. Methodist regained the lead on a layup from junior Dezzire Gilliard and a free throw after the foul. Methodist held a 21-19 lead with 3:17 to go and closed the half on a 8-2 run to lead 28-20 at halftime.

Methodist opened the second half scoring the first five points of the game and led by 20 through the first eight and a half minutes. Junior Amanda Underwood scored back-to-back baskets for the 55-30 lead. With 1:31 to go, freshman Adriana Wilson hit two free throws to lead by 25 again. Shenandoah scored a final layup for Methodist to close with the 64-41 win.

Gilliard led the Monarchs with 11 points while senior Courtney Bissette and junior Kristen Whitehurst scored nine a piece. Senior Chelsale Hester led with eight rebounds.

Methodist will host their final regular season home game Saturday against Christopher Newport at 2 pm.
