Methodist’s Whitehurst selected USA South Rookie of the Week for women’s basketball
Freshman had 15 points, eight rebounds on Saturday against Lynchburg

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The USA South Athletic Conference released its first weekly honors for women’s basketball for the 2005-06 season on the Monday, and the Methodist Lady Monarchs were a part of those initial honors. Freshman Kristen Whitehurst was the selected the USA South Rookie of the Week.

Whitehurst, a 5-foot-11 center from Raleigh, N.C., started her collegiate career and good fashion over the weekend for the Methodist at the Emory & Henry Tip-Off Classic. She scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the Lady Monarchs’ 66-60 victory over Lynchburg. In addition, Whitehurst also scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in Friday’s season opener against Emory & Henry.

Through two games this season, Whitehurst is averaging 11 points and seven rebounds.

Methodist travels Tuesday to Bennett for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
