Lady Monarchs’ Whitehurst selected USA South Rookie of the Week
Freshman forward receives women’s basketball weekly honor for second time this season

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The USA South Athletic Conference released its weekly awards for women’s basketball on Monday, and Methodist’s Kristen Whitehurst was selected as the USA South Rookie of the Week. It’s the second time this season that Whitehurst has received the weekly rookie honor by the conference.

A freshman forward from Raleigh, N.C., Whitehurst averaged nine points and six points in the Lady Monarchs’ two games last week. She grabbed five rebounds in a 61-56 defeat against Greensboro on Wednesday, followed by a 14-point, seven-rebound performance at Ferrum on Saturday.

For the season, Whitehurst is averaging eight points and five rebounds a game for Methodist, and is shooting 52 percent from the field to lead the USA South.

Methodist (10-9, 5-4) returns to action on Tuesday night with a 5:30 p.m. showdown at Averett.
