Lady Monarchs’ Whitehurst selected USA South Rookie of the Year
Freshman forward first Methodist player to receive conference rookie honor

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The USA South Athletic Conference released its 2005-06 postseason honors for women’s basketball honors on Wednesday, and the Methodist Lady Monarchs had one of the three award winners for the season. Forward Kristen Whitehurst was selected as the USA South Rookie of the Year. It’s the first time a Methodist player has received the conference rookie honor.

A 5-foot-10 forward from Raleigh, N.C., Whitehurst averaged eight points and five rebounds a game in 25 games played. In addition, she was ranked second in the USA South in field goal shooting percentage at 55 percent. Whitehurst reached double-figures in 12 games, and had a career-high 17 points at Meredith.

In conference play, Whitehurst averaged eight points and five rebounds in the 14 conference games and shot 53 percent from the field.
