Lady Monarchs open 2005 fall season with eighth-place finish at Draper Valley Intercollegiate

DRAPER, Va. –
Fresh off its 18th national championship in the last 20 years, the Methodist Lady Monarch golf team opened the 2005 season this week with an eighth-place finish at the Draper Valley Women’s Intercollegiate. The Lady Monarchs shot rounds of 310 and 311 to finish with a 621 for the two-day, 16-team field on Monday and Tuesday.

Methodist finished two strokes behind Tennessee Tech, three strokes behind High Point and five strokes behind Belmont. Western Carolina won the tournament with a 591, 13 strokes ahead of Elon and 17 strokes in front of host Appalachian State.

Individually, junior Heather Martin had the best finish amongst the Lady Monarchs, shooting rounds of 73 and 78 for a 151 and a tie for 11th place. She finished seven strokes behind individual champion Malin Fryk from Western Carolina.

In addition, Charlotte Williams finished tied for 27th with a 155 (78-77), while Katie Dick tied for 38th with a 157 (79-78). Other Methodist scores included Jessica Wanger tied for 43rd with a 158 (80-78) and Colleen Walsh tied for 48th with a 160 (80-80).

Methodist’s next fall tournament is Sept. 26-27 Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Classic in Myrtle Beach.
