April 22, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Methodist University women's golf team earned the first three places in the Monarch Invitational over South Carolina State and Piedmont College. The varsity team finished first with a score of 598. The Green team finished second with a score of 658 and the Gold team shot 678 to place third. The Monarchs' varsity team shot a 292 in round two to set a school record for the lowest score. They shaved 14 strokes off their score from Saturday's round one. Charlotte Williams (77-71) and Susan Martin (76-72) finished in a tie for first and went into a sudden-death playoff where Martin tapped in for par to win her first collegiate tournament. Adding to the win was Heather Martin's third place finish (75-74) and Katie Dick's fourth place finish (78-75). Emily Ranney finished 10th for the Monarchs (83-83). The Green team included Jessica Wanger (77-84), Holly Knox (83-81), Emily Tucker (85-81), Sara Dickson (88-81) and Junko Suzuki (92-82) to finished second. Wanger led her team with a fifth place finish with Knox three strokes behind in sixth. Darlene Roach (84-80), Alana Swain (87-78), Allyson Burak (87-86), Lizzy D'Amato (85-91), and Colleen Long (89-91) combined to finish third as the Gold team. Roach tied with Knox for a sixth place finish overall. The women will travel to the NCAA Division III Tournament May 8-11. |
