Continuing
the storied success of women's golf at Methodist University, Vici
Pate recently completed her sixth season as the Methodist head
coach women's golf coach and the assistant director of the college's
professional golf management program. In each of her first six
seasons at the Monarch helm, Pate has won the Division III National
Championship. In addition, she has coached one two-time
individual Division III National Champion, two Division III National
Players of the Year, three Division III National Freshmen of the
Year and 21 Division III All-Americans.
Inheriting the top program in NCAA
Division III, Pate took the torch and ran with it in 2003. She
led the Lady Monarchs to the NCAA Division III
national championship, winning the title by a record 53 strokes over the nearest
competition. In addition, her inaugural team produced three
Division III All-Americans and the Division III Player of the
Year Michelle Meadows.
That was followed in the
2004 season as Methodist
edged Mary Hardin-Baylor by two strokes to win the national title. The Lady Monarchs
produced three Division III All-Americans and the Division III
Freshman of the Year Charlotte Williams.
With Methodist playing host to the 2005 NCAA Division III National
Championships at MidPines, Pate and the Lady Monarchs again came out
on top. Methodist won with a 12-stroke victory
over Mary Hardin-Baylor. For the first time in her career, Pate was
honored as the Division III National Coach of the Year, while the
Lady Monarchs produced three All-Americans for the second straight
year, as well as an individual national champion Charlotte Williams and the Division
III National Freshman of the Year Katie Dick. Pate's 2006 squad dominated the competition
at a record level, winning their ninth straight national title
and nineteenth in the last twenty-one years, by a NCAA record
seventy-six strokes! Pate was honored again as Division
III National Coach of the Year. Charlotte Williams also
repeated as individual nation champion and was named the National
Player of the Year. In addition, all five Monarchs were
named All-Americans.
In 2007,
the Monarchs won their tenth consecutive National Championship
and 20th overall. Junior Katie Dick won the individual championship
helping the team to break their own record, winning the tournament
by 88 strokes. All five Monarchs were named All-Americans while
Susan Martin was named Freshman of the Year.
Once again
Methodist claimed the National Championship in 2008 led by sophomore
Susan Martin. Dick finished in a tie for second while both players
recieved All-American honors.
Pate came
to Methodist
after a stint as an instructor and administrator at the Mike
Adam’s L.A.W.s of Golf Academy in Jupiter, FL. Prior to that
assignment, the Illinois State University graduate was an instructor
at the Academy of Golf at PGA National Resort and Spa which
is rated as one of the top-25 golf schools in the United States
by Golf Digest.
Pate is no stranger to collegiate golf as
she was a three-year team captain and All-Conference selection on
the ISU women’s golf team. Additionally, she held a one-year
tenure as a volunteer assistant women’s golf coach while she was an instructor at the University of Illinois
Golf Courses.
Pate also has six years of experience as a
head golf professional at Vermilion Hills Country Club and Harrison Park
Golf Courses in Danville, IL.
