March 12, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Methodist varsity women's golf team defeated SUNY Cortland by 141 strokes on Monday before the junior varsity team won the Orchard Spring Invitational on Tuesday. The Monarchs combined to for two wins in just two days. On Monday, Methodist hosted SUNY Cortland on their par 70 home course. Senior Katie Dick led the 14 golfers with a 73 while sophomore Susan Martin finished second with a 76. Freshman Katy Heskett shot an 82 while freshman Paige Caldwell shot an 83. Junior Sara Dickson was fifth with an 86 and freshman Gretchen McLean shot an 87. Sophomores Alana Swain and Lizzy D'Amato tied for seventh with a score of 88 and freshman Jacqueline Ponder shot a 107. Piedmont College hosted the Orchard Spring Invitational on Tuesday in Clarkesville, Georgia. Methodist beat out four other teams to win by nine strokes over Young Harris Community College. Junior Junko Suzuki led the team with a 78 to finish in second, two strokes off the leader on the par 72 course. Senior Keely Shafer shot a 79 to place third and sophomore Darlene Roach tied for sixth with an 85. Freshman Emily Jackson tied for 13th with an 89 and sophomore Allyson Burak shot a 90 to finish 15th. The varsity team will travel to Rutland, GA for the Piedmont Invitational Monday and Tuesday. |
