Charlotte Williams repeats as Sykes Cup award winner Junior two-time national champion is again recognized as Methodist's elite student-athlete FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Methodist College athletic department announced Monday the winner of the prestigious Sykes Cup. In a landslide victory, the coaches selected junior women's golfer Charlotte Williams. Williams also won the Sykes Cup last year. The Sykes Cup is named after former Methodist Coach, and current College employee Mason Sykes. The Silver bowl is presented annually to the Methodist College Most Outstanding Athlete-of-the-Year. The award criteria are threefold: outstanding athletic achievement, minimum of a 2.0 GPA, and good character. The winner is determined by a vote of the head coaching staff. The award will be presented at the first convocation this fall. Williams, a Hope Mills native and South View graduate repeated this season as NCAA Individual National Champion. For her efforts this season, she was named the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Athlete of the Year. She led the Monarchs to the national championship in each of her first three seasons at Methodist.
