Senior Lauren McGonagle named Player of the Year for second time in her career

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for lacrosse.  A total of 35 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams for lacrosse.  Methodist University's Lauren McGonagle has been named the Player of the Year for the second time in her career.  The Monarchs have won the Player of the Year award the past four consecutive seasons.

McGonagle, a senior midfielder from South Burlington, Vermont, has been named the Conference's Player of the Year. McGonagle first received the honor in 2005 and it is the fourth consecutive season that a Monarch has received the award. This spring, McGonagle led the USA South in points (74), goals (49) and assists per game (1.79). Also, McGonagle led the Monarchs with 25 assists, 58 groundballs and 22 caused turnovers. This is the fourth consecutive season in which McGonagle, who helped Methodist to a 6-9 overall record and a 4-2 mark in league play, has received First Team All-Conference honors.

Sophomore Andrea DiStefano received Second Team honors for her play at attack.  DiStefano transitioned to the field this season after serving as the team's goalkeeper last year.  She scored 39 goals with 4 assists to rank second on the team behind McGonagle.  Also on the Second Team is junior midfielder Christina Layson.  A transfer from Catonsville Community College, Layson scored 20 goals with five assists and ranked second in draw controls with 35.

An honorable mention selection, senior Kim Collier is a mainstay on the Methodist defense.  Collier picked up 26 ground balls while causing 13 turnovers on the season.

The Monarchs will face the #2 seed Greensboro on Saturday in Burlington, NC in the USA South Tournament semifinals at 3:30 pm.  To stay up to date on tournament action visit: Tournament Website
