Christopher Newport Defeats Monarchs 20-4
Senior Chrystal Bradley scored Methodist's first goal of the game

NEWPORT NEWS, VA— Christopher Newport scored the first goal of the game and cruised to a 12-2 lead at halftime before finishing with the 20-4 win. Methodist drops to 3-10 overall and 2-2 in the USA South while Christopher Newport is 8-5 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Christopher Newport grabbed possession of the first draw control and Lisa Thomson scored her first of four goals to open the scoring. The Captains tallied their second goal before Methodist senior Chrystal Bradley got the Monarchs on the board with an unassisted goal at 3:57 into the game. Christopher Newport went on a six goal run before sophomore Krystal Poirier gave Methodist a goal on a free position shot with a 11 and a half minutes to go in the half. The Captains finished the half with four more goals to lead 12-2 at the break.

They continued the scoring with the first seven goals of the second half, but junior Andrea DiStefano stopped the run with a goal. The Captains responded with one of their own, but senior Christina Layson scored Methodist's fourth goal with 7:22 to go in the game. Christopher Newport finished out with the 20-4 win.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Cosgray made 13 saves while the Captains' three keepers combined for nine stops.

Methodist finished the regular season with the #3 seed in the USA South Tournament and will face #2 Greensboro on Friday in Burlington, N.C. Click to visit the Tournament Website
