March 9, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE, NC — It was a close game early, but Emerson took over late with a seven goal run to win 16-9. Methodist moves to 2-5 on the season while Emerson improves to 2-1 overall. Emerson scored the first goal of the game, but Methodist responded with a goal from junior Diane Doroftei. The Lions went ahead by two, but senior Christina Layson tallied a goal and then Doroftei fed junior Andrea DiStefano to tie the game at three. Emerson came back with two goals, and Layson cut the lead to one with an unassisted goal. The Lions scored once more to take the 6-4 lead at halftime. DiStefano jump started the second half with two goals for the Monarchs, tying the game at six. Emerson countered with two goals of their own but Methodist junior Ann Ferrara scored on the assist from Doroftei. Emerson took over with a seven goal run through the second half before sophomore Krystal Poirier could get one for the Monarchs. Ferrara scored again to move within six, but the Lions registered a final goal to take the 16-9 win. Methodist returns to Fayetteville to host USA South rival Greensboro on Tuesday at 4 pm. |
