March 19, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE, NC— Ferrum scored the first goal of the game but the Monarchs used a five goal rally late in the first half to cruise to a 15-4 win. Methodist moves to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in the USA South while Ferrum moves to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Ferrum Panthers scored the first goal 1:04 into the game, but junior Ann Ferrara fed senior Christina Layson for the goal to tie the game at one. Junior Andrea DiStefano assisted sophomore Krystal Poirier to give Methodist a 2-1 lead through the first ten minutes of play. Ferrum countered with a goal, but the Monarchs scored the next five goals to take a 7-2 lead at halftime. Freshman Brittny Waldron scored on a free position shot while DiStefano scored an unassisted goal. Junior Kelsie Britt scored on the assist from Ferrara and senior Chrystal Bradley scored a free position shot. Poirier finished the scoring in the first half with the seventh goal at the 24:58 mark. Ferrum opened the second with a free position goal, but DiStefano found Ferrara on back-to-back goals for the 9-3 lead. The Panthers scored once more before Methodist scored the last six goals of the game. Britt scored her second goal of the game and junior Diane Doroftei followed up with a free position shot. Britt earned the hat trick on her third goal and Layson tallied her second goal of the day. DiStefano dished off her fourth assist to Bradley for the 14-4 lead. Sophomore Erica Nath got on the board with a goal on a free position shot. Methodist goalkeeper sophomore Lindsey Cosgray had nine saves on the day while Ferrum's Velena Taylor made 18 stops. The Monarchs' next game will be at Guilford March 26 at 6 pm. |
