Greensboro Defeats Methodist 19-12
Junior Andrea DiStefano led the Monarchs with four goals and an assist

FAYETTEVILLE, NC — The Monarchs cut the lead to three midway through the second half, but the Greensboro Pride took over late in the game to win 19-12. Methodist moves to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in the USA South while Greensboro is 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Greensboro scored the first two goals of the game but junior Ann Ferrara put the Monarchs on the board with a goal off of the free position. The Pride countered, but Methodist junior Andrea DiStefano scored her first goal of the game. Greensboro called a timeout and regrouped to rattle off four goals for the 7-2 lead. Senior Chrystal Bradley stopped the run with a goal at the 19:18 mark in the half. The teams exchanged goals with DiStefano scoring on senior Jessica Hatcher's assist. The Pride slotted the free position goal, but DiStefano scored with 1:33 to go and then fed Ferrara with just four seconds on the clock to cut Greensboro's lead to 9-6 at halftime.

Greensboro scored the first three goals of the second half, but junior Kelsie Britt went in for the unassisted goal for Methodist. DiStefano followed suit with a crease roll and sophomore Krystal Poirier scored the Monarchs' third consecutive goal to move back to within three goals. The Pride scored the next two, but senior Christina Layson responded with a goal for Methodist. Greensboro scored just fifteen seconds later but the Monarchs scored again with Ferrara's free position. The Pride sealed their win with the next four goals before Layson scored her second goal in the final two minutes. Greensboro finished with the 19-12 win for their first victory this season.

DiStefano led the Monarchs with four goals and an assist while Ferrara scored three goals and Layson had two. Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Cosgray made 16 saves for the Monarchs.

Methodist will host Ferrum next Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 4 pm.
