March 26, 2008 GREENSBORO, NC— Guilford jumped out to an 11-0 halftime lead before going on to win 17-4 Wednesday evening. Methodist drops to 3-7 overall while Guilford won their fourth straight to improve to 4-3 this season. The Quakers struck first with a goal 3:21 into the game and rattled off 10 more goals during the first half to take the 11-0 lead at halftime. Methodist junior Andrea DiStefano got the Monarchs on the board with an unassisted goal a little more than five minutes into the second half. Sophomore Krystal Poirier followed up with a goal with 16:36 remaining in the game but Guilford would score the next three goals. Senior Christina Layson stopped the run with a free position goal and scored again less than a minute later to move within 10 goals at 14-4. Guilford scored three more goals in the game to take the 17-4 win. The Monarchs' goalkeeper, sophomore Lindsey Cosgray had eight saves in the game while Guilford's goalkeepers Alyzza-May Callahan and Erin Hoerner combined for nine stops. Methodist will host Sweet Briar on Saturday at 2 pm. The Monarchs will recognize their three seniors in their last home game at Monarch Stadium. |
