Sweet Briar Defeats Methodist 13-12

SWEET BRIAR, VA — Methodist and Sweet Briar
women's lacrosse battled it out on Wednesday
afternoon in a game of six ties and two lead
changes before the Monarchs fell 13-12 in the
final thirty seconds. Methodist finishes
their season 6-11 while Sweet Briar moves to

The USA South completed the tournament
championships on Sunday, April 15. The
Monarchs won more trophies than any other school
with four, while Christopher Newport won one and
Ferrum won the other.

NC-
The USA South Athletic Conference has announced
its All-Conference awards for lacrosse. A total
of 35 student-athletes have been named to the
USA South All-Conference teams for lacrosse.
Methodist University's Lauren McGonagle has been
named the Player of the Year for the second time
in her career. The Monarchs have won the
Player of the Year award the past four
consecutive seasons.

The third seeded Monarchs knocked off sixth seed
NC Wesleyan 20-10 on Tuesday afternoon to
advance to the conference tournament semifinals
for the sixth consecutive year. Methodist
advances to 6-9 on the season while NC Wesleyan
concludes their season at 3-13.

WINCHESTER, VA-
The Methodist lacrosse team finished the regular
season with a 15-12 win over Shenandoah
University on Monday. The Monarchs
withstood a three-goal run by the Hornets in the
final five minutes to hold on for the victory. Methodist
moves to 5-9 on the season and 4-2 in the USA
South while Shenandoah drops to 4-8 overall and
2-4 in the conference.

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-
The Guilford Quakers came out and took advantage
early to take a 6-1 lead in the first twelve
minutes of the game. Guilford went on to
win 16-5 over the Monarchs. Methodist
moves to 4-8 on the season while Guilford is 4-5
overall.

Annual Lowdermilk Student Achievement Awards
program on Monday night. Daryl Lawrence
(Football), Jeremy Perkins (Football), and
Jessica Hatcher (Lacrosse) were three of eight
students selected to receive the award this

CLINTON, SC- Methodist scored first but the
score continued to flip flop until Presbyterian
took a 7-5 lead at halftime. The Blue Hose
went on to win 17-9 over the Monarchs. Methodist
moves to 4-7 overall
while Presbyterian improves to 5-6 this season.

NC- The Monarchs and Bishops were tied 9-9 at
halftime and the Monarchs were down by two in
the second half, but with plenty of lead changes
and ties, Methodist prevailed 16-15 over North
Carolina Wesleyan. Methodist
moves to 4-6 overall
and 3-1 in the USA South while NC Wesleyan falls
to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

NC- The College of Wooster traveled down to
Fayetteville from Ohio to open their season
against the Monarchs. Methodist held a 3-2
lead early in the first half, but the Scots
battled back to lead 6-3 at halftime and went on
to win 14-9. Methodist
moves to 3-6 overall
while Wooster starts the season 1-0.

Sophomore Andrea DiStefano scores two goals for
the Monarchs
FAYETTEVILLE,
NC- The Lynchburg Hornets opened the game with
seven goals before the Monarchs were able to get
on the board with a little more than thirteen
minutes remaining in the first half.
Lynchburg took a 14-2 lead into halftime, but
both teams scored three goals a piece in the
second half. Methodist
moves to 3-5 overall
while Lynchburg improves to 3-3 on the season.

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Methodist lacrosse team
jumped out early, but Lees-McRae tied the game
4-4 at halftime before the Monarchs outscored
the Bobcats 9-2 in the second half for the win. Methodist
improves to 3-4 overall
while NCAA Division-II Lees-McRae falls to 0-7.

FERRUM, VA- The Monarchs returned from their
spring break trip to Hilton Head ready to return
to conference action at Ferrum on Saturday.
The Monarchs jumped to an 8-3 lead at halftime
and held the Panthers to one goal in the second
half for the 13-4 win. Methodist
improves to 2-4 overall
and 2-1 in the USA South while Ferrum falls to
0-3 overall and in the conference.

HILTON HEAD, SC- The Mules scored four quick
goals in the first fifteen minutes, but the
Monarchs moved within one with their third goal
in the 20th minute. Muhlenberg took a 5-3
lead at halftime and went on to take the 13-6

falls to 1-4 overall
while Muhlenberg starts the season 3-0.

twelve minutes into the game. Methodist

GREENSBORO, NC-
Methodist scored the first two goals of the game
and held a 3-1 lead before Greensboro scored 14
unanswered goals. The Pride went on to win
the first conference game of the season 19-7. Methodist
moves to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the USA South
while Greensboro starts the season 1-0 overall
and 1-0 in the conference.

After being shutout in the first half, the
Monarchs came out fighting in the second half.
Despite losing the game 18-7, Methodist showed
signs of improvement outscoring St. Andrews 7-6
in the second half. Methodist
starts the season 0-1 while St. Andrews moves to
2-1 on the year.

today for the remaining spring sports.
