Methodist Student-Athletes Honored by Fayetteville Rotary Club
Jessica Hatcher, Daryl Lawrence and Jeremy Perkins receive Lowdermilk Student Achievement Award

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Fayetteville Rotary Club hosted its 13th Annual Lowdermilk Student Achievement Awards program on Monday night.  Daryl Lawrence (Football), Jeremy Perkins (Football), and Jessica Hatcher (Lacrosse) were three of eight students selected to receive the award this year.

Each of the awardees received a $1,000 cash award and a Methodist University scholarship in the amount of $2,000 or $4,000. The students were presented with a plaque and their names will be inscribed on a plaque that is on permanent display at the University.

The award was established in 1995 by the Fayetteville Rotary Club to honor the late Rev. Dr. Lowdermilk for his service to Rotary International and his 32 years of service to Methodist University from 1963-1995. The awards are given to eight full-time Methodist University students who have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0, provide exemplary service to the University and/or the Fayetteville community, and demonstrate by action and deed high ethical standards and spiritual values in their educational, professional, and personal lives.

Daryl Lawrence is a junior football player from Jacksonville, North Carolina.  Lawrence is a starting defensive lineman for the Monarchs and a two-time All-Conference selection.  This past season, Lawrence recorded 66 tackles including thirteen and a half for a loss of forty-five yards.  Lawrence is majoring in Computer Science with plans to graduate next year.

A junior from Rose Hill, North Carolina, Jeremy Perkins is a starting defensive lineman on the Methodist football team.  During the fall, he registered 17 tackles while assisting on a sack for a loss of four yards.  Perkins plans to graduate next year with a degree in Physical Education.

Originally from Buies Creek, North Carolina, Jessica Hatcher is a junior on the lacrosse team.  Hatcher played two years on the women's soccer team before joining the lacrosse program this spring.  She has started every game for the Monarchs recording nine ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Hatcher plans to graduate next year with a degree in Business Administration and a concentration in Sport Management.
