March 1, 2008 LYNCHBURG, VA — The Monarchs were forced to play three players down and couldn't keep up with the Lynchburg offense as the Hornets outscored Methodist 16-4 on Saturday. The Monarchs move to 1-2 on the season while Lynchburg is 2-0 overall. Lynchburg opened the scoring early, but Methodist senior Christina Layson tied the game with just under five minutes played. The Hornets responded with four goals before Layson scored her second goal of the day. Lynchburg added two more to take a 7-2 lead with 12:54 to go in the first half. The Monarchs' freshman Brittny Waldron scored an unassisted goal, but the Hornets finished the half with four goals for the 11-3 halftime lead. Lynchburg scored the first two goals of the second half, but Methodist sophomore Krystal Poirier added a goal with 19:47 to go. The Hornets added three goals in the final 16 minutes to earn the 16-4 win. Methodist goalkeeper Lindsey Cosgray had 12 saves with Lynchburg's Emma Lippert making five stops for the Hornets. Methodist will travel to Hilton Head this week with the next game scheduled at Savannah College of Art & Design Monday at 2:30 pm. |
