March 17, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Lynchburg Hornets opened the game with seven goals before the Monarchs were able to get on the board with a little more than thirteen minutes remaining in the first half. Lynchburg took a 14-2 lead into halftime, but both teams scored three goals a piece in the second half. Methodist moves to 3-5 overall while Lynchburg improves to 3-3 on the season. The first goal for the Monarchs came from sophomore Andrea DiStefano on the feed from junior Bridget Holcomb. The Hornets responded with two goals of their own to take the 9-1 lead, but senior Lauren McGonagle finished a free position shot from the eight-meter to close the gap back to seven. Lynchburg scored the final five goals of the half to hold the 14-2 advantage. Methodist regrouped at halftime and scored the first two goals after the break. McGonagle found Distefano for the first goal before McGonagle scored her second goal seven minutes later. The Monarchs held Lynchburg scoreless during the first fifteen minutes of the second half, before freshman Kathryn Ollice scored her fourth goal of the game. Junior Bridget Holcomb found a hole through the defense for a goal on the assist from McGonagle to close the gap to 15-5. Lynchburg scored the final two goals of the game to earn the 17-5 win. Freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Cosgray had great saves from point-blank range for the Monarchs to give her eight on the day. Lynchburg's keeper Ji-Young Eun tallied six stops for the Hornets. The Monarchs will be back on Monday to host the College of Wooster at 4 pm. |
