Methodist Lacrosse Advances to Tournament Semifinals
Junior Bridget Holcomb leads the team with six goals and an assist

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The third seeded Monarchs knocked off sixth seed NC Wesleyan 20-10 on Tuesday afternoon to advance to the conference tournament semifinals for the sixth consecutive year.  Methodist advances to 6-9 on the season while NC Wesleyan concludes their season at 3-13.

Senior Allie Stylc scored the first goal of the game for the Bishops in the first minute, but freshman Jessica Lutzow evened the score for Methodist on the feed from senior Lauren McGonagle.  Sophomore Andrea DiStefano scored on the crease roll and junior Bridget Holcomb followed up with a goal to give Methodist a 3-1 lead.  The Bishops countered with a goal, but the Monarchs scored the next four to regain a 7-2 lead.  Every time NC Wesleyan scored, the Monarchs came back with more offense to combat the Bishops.  Methodist took a 12-4 lead at halftime.

The Bishops did not let up in the second half closing the gap to eight goals with 13:17 remaining in the game, but junior Christina Layson scored on a free position to take a 17-8 lead.  The Bishops scored two more goals, but the Monarchs closed out with three goals for the highest scoring total this season and the 20-10 win.

Holcomb finished with six goals and an assist while Layson scored five goals.  DiStefano scored five while McGonagle scored three goals with four assists.  Sophomore Kelsie Britt and Lutzow scored one a piece.

Freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Cosgray had six stops in the game on 17 shots while NC Wesleyan goalkeepers Cary Trump and Sarah Seligman combined for 13 saves.
