March 25, 2007 CLINTON, SC- Methodist scored first but the score continued to flip flop until Presbyterian took a 7-5 lead at halftime. The Blue Hose went on to win 17-9 over the Monarchs. Methodist moves to 4-7 overall while Presbyterian improves to 5-6 this season. Sophomore Andrea DiStefano opened the scoring with a goal five minutes into the game to take the 1-0 lead. The remainder of the first half included four ties before Presbyterian took a 7-4 lead with less than four minutes in the half. DiStefano scored her third goal of the game with 2:18 left to close the gap to two at halftime. The Blue Hose scored the first two goals of the second half before the Monarchs were able to find the back of the net. Presbyterian responded with a run of three more goals to take a 12-6 lead. Methodist closed the lead to 12-8, but Presbyterian scored five goals in the final ten and a half minutes to secure the 17-9 win. DiStefano led the scoring for the Monarchs with 5 goals and an assist while junior Bridget Holcomb scored two and senior Lauren McGonagle added a goal and an assist. Freshman Morgan Langdon rounded out the scoring with a goal on a free position shot in the second half. The Monarchs freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Cosgray finished with 12 saves while the Blue Hose's keeper Erin McBurnette made nine stops for Presbyterian. The Monarchs will host Guilford on Wednesday at 4 pm. |
